«The two corner buildings of the Strassenbahner building co-operative together with the row building of the Letten housing co-operative on Friedheimstrasse form a spatial unit. The existing urban and architectural quality of the ensemble is still highly valued today, ...» (excerpt from the programme)
The new buildings on Friedackerstrasse must measure up to the existing buildings in terms of their urban quality. This is a high standard - and was the starting point for the design. It is based on the conviction that it is good for our residential neighbourhoods if the streets are more strongly appropriated as communal spaces - and not just the courtyards and gardens behind the houses! Before, Friedackerstrasse ended quite succinctly after half a kilometre in Friedheimstrasse. But this location certainly justifies the creation of a small square that not only marks the start of Friedackerstrasse, but also lends significance to the ensemble of residential buildings. The square at the junction between the two neighbourhood streets is both a meeting point for residents and a meeting place for passers-by and neighbourhood residents.
